Working with the Personal History Editor
to research and write the
history of your business . . .
Business histories, or corporate histories, chronicle the rise and fall of small enterprises and large conglomerates. In addition, profiles of leaders within the business can show relationships between periods of growth and expansion and times of struggle and new direction. In many towns, an interesting correlation emerges between company growth and the development of surrounding municipalities.
The steps to completing a company history or management profile can include
• locating research materials,
• organizing research and notes,
• helping write a draft presentation,
• editing and helping revise the draft,
• fact-checking and verifying facts,
• introducing pieces of relevant social history
as desired (to place the company's stories
into a historical and societal context for
future readers), and, finally,
• helping explore options for publication,
including focused pamphlet-type articles,
Web pages, annual reports, photocopied
manuscripts, or professionally printed and
bound books.
Once completed, versions of the business history can be used for grant applications, RFPs, newspaper and magazine articles, publicity campaigns, and other projects.
